Auslan and Live Captioned
The legendary pop pioneer opened his attic crawl space where he hoarded objects for 20 years. He tells us what he found there and how the things we keep hidden say more about us than those we put on display.
Jarvis Cocker, founder and frontman of Pulp, takes us through a lifetime of objects hoarded for years in his attic crawl space - scraps, notebooks, posters, a penny set in resin, film negatives, torn photos, patches, plastic novelties, clothing, keychains, record albums, even a plaster cast of his teeth. Does he “keep or cob” (“cob” being Sheffield-speak for “throw”). Are they good pop, or bad pop? The objects hold stories of their own, some Cocker might not otherwise have wanted to tell. Jarvis Cocker joins us via video link to share the life we didn't see. Through it we gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of “pop”, the empowering creativity that is within us all, and the whole Pulp project - the idea that you could “find artistic depth & sustenance in the things other people throw away”.
