Wendy McCarthy
Hosted by Larissa Behrendt
Wendy McCarthy is one of Australian feminism's heroes. She shares her remarkable life and achievements, and the lessons she has learned - and taught us all.
From country schoolgirl to relentless national campaigner for women and children; from passionate teacher to lifelong advocate for education, Wendy McCarthy is a champion of change for women across the public, private and community sectors in education, family planning, human rights, public health, overseas aid, conservation, media and the arts. Wendy is one of the great allies – to women of all ages and backgrounds.
In addition to the work she does that is very much in the public eye – advocating for women’s health, reproductive rights, child care, and women’s self-determination – she is often the woman who is there behind the scenes, strategizing, and counselling women undergoing any number of challenges. In this conversation, Larissa Behrendt, who herself has benefitted from Wendy’s counsel, explores her extraordinary life, including this largely unsung work.
