Kamasi Washington - Talking Music
Contemporary Music

12m
Moments before stunning a sold out Concert Hall audience, tenor sax don Kamasi Washington sat down with Sydney Opera House Music Producer Alister Hill to chat about the parallels between imagination and reality, how a digital age is making us write music faster, and why the first take is always the best.
While jazz has stood the test of time, Kamasi has been able to introduce the genre to new audiences and galvanise fans of hip-hop, R&B, electronic and experimental music. Heaven and Earth is Kamasi’s two takes on reality.
"The Earth side of this album represents the world as I see it outwardly, the world that I am a part of. The Heaven side of this album represents the world as I see it inwardly, the world that is a part of me. Who I am and the choices I make lie somewhere in between.”
