Finding Our Voice is a national portrait in sound of Australia’s most exciting composers, working in wildly diverse ways.
The project commissioned eight Australian artists to create an ambitious new musical composition, and presented each of the works live in an iconic Australian venue - filmed for presentation online.
Sunny Kim ’s MotherTongue, MotherLand is one of two works that was presented at Sydney Opera House, and saw Kim assembling a stellar cast of musicians: Aviva Endean, Gelareh Pour and Mindy Meng Wang. At the heart of their work is a poetic response to motherhood referencing the artists' and their mothers' experiences of migration, longing, belonging, joy, and pain.
Artistic director and executive producer of Finding Our Voice, Genevieve Lacey, says: ““Sunny Kim's gentle, generous artistry is balm for our times. She invites us into her radiant, powerful creations with intelligence and care.”
