Australia’s hottest young R&B talent makes his solo Opera House debut. Streaming as part of Liminal, a bold, new contemporary music film series featuring eight Australian artists as they create unique live performances for the screen.
In just under a year, 19-year-old singer-songwriter Budjerah has created a wave of buzz to become one of Australia’s hottest new music acts with five 2021 ARIA-Award nominations. In April, he stunned the audience with his soulful set at Jack River’s Visions of Us concert at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt, and now he’s ready to make his long delayed, hugely anticipated solo debut performance as part of our new music film series, Liminal. The Joan Sutherland Theatre will be transformed for Budjerah’s performance, with a 360-degree stage and stark, cinematic visuals bringing a dramatic dimension to the music.
A Coodjinburra man from the Bundjalung nation, Budjerah Slabb was raised in a home full of instruments and playing in family bands. His warm, rich sound – forged from the elements of soul, gospel, R&B and contemporary pop – reflects the diversity of his influences. Mentored by singer-songwriter Matt Corby, Budjerah’s music flourished, producing his triple j-topping debut single ‘Missing You’ and EP, which introduced the young artist’s distinctive, soulful voice – and R&B pop sound – to dazzled audiences around the country.
“Budjerah is a talent that comes by rarely… masterful control and a silky quality to his vocals reminiscent of some of Frank Ocean’s best work.” – musicfeeds.com.au
