The legendary 90s feminist punk band Bikini Kill are finding their music and ideas more relevant than ever. They join Marieke Hardy for an exclusive conversation about activism, music, and women taking up space.
In the 1990s, feminist punk band Bikini Kill commanded space in the male-dominated music industry. These anarchistic musicians encouraged disobedience in young women, emboldening them to publish zines and start bands as acts of cultural resistance. After splitting in 1998, the band reformed in 2019 with a spirit of rebellion newly relevant to generations of women and girls in the misogynistic Trump era.
Bikini Kill closes out All About Women, performing on Monday 13 March – and on Sunday evening, founding members Kathleen Hanna, Tobi Vail, and Kathi Wilcox will sit down with Marieke Hardy. Don't miss this conversation about new ways to speak out, the balance between activism, anger, and joy, and how the band's blistering message is once again bringing girls to the front.
