The leadership of Indigenous women has long focused on responsibilities to community and country. You're invited to discover where this approach intersects and conflicts with mainstream feminism today.
Since time immemorial, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have looked after human, spiritual and ecological wellbeing. Many First Nations women's activism - that might now be labelled under the umbrella term 'feminism' - is in fact a continuation of a long history of matriarchs, an ancient line of women and gender diverse peoples who embody kinship and moral responsibility to community and country.
Join us for a multi-generational panel to look at the movements Blak women have mothered and led, alongside fights that could be considered feminist issues - like equal pay and justice, violence and coercive control, leadership and movement building - that may challenge your understandings when viewed through a First Nations lens. This essential discussion will cover truth-telling in a time of state-sanctioned violence, and what that means for all of us today.
