Uplifting and jubilant. These masterpieces of German Baroque music explore the popular stylised dances of the era, brimming with energy and character.
J.S. Bach was a master of musical invention, and in his First Orchestral Suite his creativity is on full display. Each movement invokes the character of the many court dances of the era, from stately to wild and energetic. Pisendel’s Fantasie is like a suite in miniature, jumping between several dances in quick succession. Telemann was another master of the Orchestral Suite, the author of over 100 orchestral suites in his time. This Orchestral Suite in D is bright and jubilant and shows why Telemann was one of the most famous composers of his day.
