What does it mean to be a believer?
Amal Awad & Sarah Krasnostein moderated by Fenella Kernebone
Presented at Antidote, 5 September 2021, 12.15pm AEST
Tickets $15
In times of uncertainty, we humans look for answers, and today's seekers have a well-stocked spiritual marketplace at their disposal. From healers to spirit guides to yoni eggs, is the continued appeal of alternative practices pointing to a more fundamental need?
Humans have always sought meaning in stars, symbols and stones. But now in our post-truth age, what do we believe in?
SBS journalist Amal Awad grew up in an Arab Muslim family where magical jinn existed alongside God. Her quest for enlightenment led her to experiment with religious devotion, New Age mediums, spirit guides and paleo diets.
Award-winning author Sarah Krasnostein investigates faith in her latest book, The Believer. From a ghost-hunting academic to a Buddhist death doula and a geologist who believes the universe was created in six days, she meets people united by the desires that drive spiritual convictions.
You're invited to join these two fantastic writers as they share what they've found in their search for answers.
