Sydney Symphony Orchestra: Justin Williams’ Movement for String Quartet
8m 17s
Watch the world premiere of Movement for String Quartet, composed by Sydney Symphony Viola Justin Williams.
Written by Justin Williams
In just a single movement, composer Justin Williams captures the full expressive range of the string quartet, with wild and dramatic playing battling against more pensive and tranquil writing. In the words of the composer: “This piece is mostly melody driven and compact by design, comprising distinct and contrasting sections.” Through the course of eight minutes, Williams’ music takes an extraordinary journey, at various times turbulent, dramatic and heartfelt, but also playful and pensive.
In this stunning performance you can hear Williams perform with his Sydney Symphony Orchestra colleagues: “I am immensely grateful to Andrew Haveron, Lerida Delbridge and Umberto Clerici for their beautiful, poetic playing, and for bringing this music to life!”
