Liminal is a bold contemporary music film series featuring eight Australian artists as they create unique live performances for the screen.
The Joan Sutherland Theatre’s transformative new Liminal stage was practically designed for EGOISM, the rising Sydney indie duo whose hazy shade of dream pop – sparkling guitars, huge hooks, pristine melodies – lends itself to the dramatic visuals and lighting of the radically reworked space. Marking their Sydney Opera House debut, the buzzy young band deliver lush shoegaze sounds with an irresistible, emotionally acute pop sensibility.
Formed in 2015 by childhood friends and co-songwriters Scout Eastment and Olive Rush, EGOISM crystallised as a duo to release the singles “Sorry”, “Enemies” and “What Are We Doing?” in 2019, their driving guitars, mellifluous vocals and existential undertow drawing raves from Triple J and FBi and earning the band a much-hyped spot at Bigsound Festival. With their acclaimed 2020 EP On Our Minds, and recent single “Lonely But Not Alone”, the duo’s soaring, euphoric sound, with its themes of isolation and longing, has connected with audiences in an era searching for emotional escape.
“Pristine guitar-driven melodies and crystal-clear vocals… Masterful dream pop.” – Triple J
