Available worldwide until 27th May 2027.
In an Australian exclusive performance for Vivid LIVE 2022, Sampa Tembo – better known as Sampa The Great – debuted her long-awaited show 'An Afro Future', performing the four-time ARIA award-winning debut album 'The Return' with her epic band, dancers and singers. Released in 2019, on iconic label Ninja Tune, the album received critical acclaim as a deeply powerful yet personal record about identity, home and displacement, blending hip-hop, neo-soul, gospel, afrobeat and jazz. NPR described the album as “a portal into the psyche of an African artist who has traveled the world in search of herself”.
Born in Zambia and raised in Botswana, Sampa relocated to Australia for a few years where she quickly cemented herself as one of the brightest rising stars. Her 2017 release 'Birds and The BEE9' received the 2017 Australian Music Prize for “Best Album”, and in 2020, she made history when 'The Return' also won “Best Album”, making her the first artist to win the prestigious award twice. In her rapid ascent, Sampa has toured globally, supported legendary acts such as Ms Lauryn Hill and Kendrick Lamar, played international festival Glastonbury and, in 2022, was the first Zambian act to to play the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
